Founded in 1980 and based in Rockland, Massachusetts, Venture Tape Corp. is a global manufacturer of specialized adhesive tapes for a wide range of markets and applications and markets.
Part of Venture’s product offering is technical expertise for complex engineering problems. To that end, Venture identified a deficiency in weatherproofing (cladding) external insulation. Leaking cladding reduces the insulation properties leading to inefficient heating and cooling, higher expense, and ultimately corrosion and replacement of the insulated pipe or ductwork. With industry knowledge and experience, Venture set out to provide a long term solution to an old age problem.
The cladding systems available at the time included metal cladding, P.I.B rubber, PVC sheeting, mastics or felt and netting. All these systems have had a long history of failures due to air leakage, poor sealants and a restriction of application due to weather conditions. Still, the insulation industry has been reluctant to change due to the lack of real alternatives, adding industry perception to Venture’s technical challenge.
VentureClad™ 1577CW® is a revolutionary way of weatherproofing insulation as it is the only completely self-adhesive product not requiring additional adhesive or mastics to create a seal. The film bonds 100% to the surface of the insulation providing a zero-permeability barrier that moisture cannot penetrate. The unique adhesive system offers excellent resistance to moisture, UV exposure, and allows application in all weather conditions including cold temperatures. Additionally, VentureClad™ 1577CW® is easily cut with a pair of standard scissors, eliminating the need for expensive off site fabrication and allowing a fast, on-site tailored installation which requires no special tools to install and dramatically reduces labour expenses.
In addition to the installation and weatherproofing benefits VentureClad™ 1577CW® offers over existing methods, VentureClad™ 1577CW® non-hazardous material and needs no special on-site storage facilities. The lightweight properties are also a benefit with application as well as a major factor when large installations on roof tops could add substantial extra weight when using metal cladding. VentureClad™ 1577CW® will not balloon or stretch due to excessive air leakage, unlike rubber based coverings currently used on ducting systems.
VentureClad™ 1577CW® has a Class '0' spread of flame rating, meaning that the product is not restricted to external applications. Additionally, VentureClad™ 1577CW® meets UL 723, British Standards BS 476, Parts 6 & 7, IMO A653.(16), and has received Lloyds Register approval for shipping and offshore applications.
Since the introduction in 2001 at the DLO in Andover on 7,500m2 of ducting, VentureClad™1577CW® has been successfully installed at hundreds of sites across the UK, mainland Europe and the USA as well as other worldwide locations. The range of applications includes weatherproofing to ducting, pipe work, as a vapour barrier to cryogenic installations, as a joint sealer to metal cladding and even as a heat reflector behind heating pipes on foamglass, rubber, foil-faced fibreglass, mineral wool, and Styrofoam, as well as other insulation types.
